The Big Band

This year, the Big Band concert took on a Christmas theme, with numbers including ‘Winter Wonderland’ (soloist Grace Moseley), ‘All I want for Christmas’ (soloist Ella Cleary) and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ (soloist Ben Hughes).

The Senior Jazz Ensemble played a set of numbers largely arranged by Band Director, Mike Adlington. Instrumental solos came from all sections of the band, with James Thomas (Alto Sax), Sam Ford (Tenor Sax) and Beatrice Price (Flute) offering particularly agile solo contributions.

Perrins Hall saw a fantastic turnout, with a number of residents from the local almshouses also supporting the event. The concert was very festive, with mince pies and mulled wine provided for parents and other guests to enjoy.

This new format for the Big Band concert was a great success and will be repeated next year. It certainly marked the beginning of the festive season for many.
