Superleague Netball In The West Midlands
Last week, Lower School County Netballers attended the Wasps Netball master class event in the Ericsson Exhibition Hall at the Ricoh Arena. Wasps Netball is one of three new franchises for the new ten-team Vitality Superleague season.
Amelia Lane, Year Eight wrote about the day:
We started the master class by practising our Netball skills in a range of stations, coached by professional coaches and players from Wasps Netball such as Tamsin Greenway, Rachel Dunn and Sam May. We also got the chance to stand on the exact show court that Wasps Netball will be playing on this upcoming season.
Another part of the experience was to test our reactions, accuracy and speed. We thoroughly enjoyed this, along with getting to meet the players and coaches, taking pictures with them and getting their signatures.
Throughout the time we were there we also did footwork drills, hand-eye co-ordination and ball skills, which were enjoyed by everyone. Then we moved on and did some balance and core strength practice and drills and finished with a group challenge incorporating many of the skills that we had practiced throughout our time there.
We enjoyed this challenge and pushed ourselves to our limits – successfully becoming the first group of the day to complete the task.
We really appreciated the opportunity to meet and train with such high level Netball players and coaches. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone for this opportunity and to Miss Pollard and Mrs Atkins for taking us.
With Superleague teams now in the West Midlands, we look forward to 3 March when RGS Worcester pupils will go to watch The Severn Stars against Celtic Dragons in the Netball Superleague at the University of Worcester Arena.
