A small but very keen group of Year Eight pupils have been learning to play Bridge during their Friday lunchtimes. So far they have learned about tricks and trumps, playing dummy, the mysteries of the “finesse”, bidding up to 3 No Trumps, and even the “Stayman” Convention.
Recently, they replayed the famous “Moonraker” James Bond hand, where 007 makes Grand Slam, doubled and redoubled, in Clubs, against the evil Drax.
The boys no doubt hope to follow in the footsteps of previous illustrious RGS Worcester pupils David Williams and Peter Ford, who won the Portland Bowl for Cambridge University, and represented England at Under 20 level at Bridge.
