Sharper, Faster Hockey
A Sharper, Faster Hockey 1st XI
It has been an eventful start to the RGS Worcester 1st XI Hockey Season with strong new players joining the team and a good number of fixtures.
The team began confidently with a win in their first match of the year, (3-0) against Malvern College with goals from Lydia Edwards (Captain) and Ria Pedlingham & Nikki Ralph (both Year Eleven new to the 1st team).
The next fixture was not so successful, with a 7-1 loss to Cheltenham Ladies College. One week later the team tackled (literally) King’s High School on a very foggy and very early Saturday morning, with a depleted team. Most of the play was in the centre pitch but early leads to their shooting circle from King’s resulted in a 3-1 lead to King’s High at half time. In the second half the opposition managed to put another two balls into the net. In the last minute of the game a penalty corner was blown for King’s; but an interception from Lydia allowed the ball to be passed up the pitch to Rose Bevan-Smith who took an early shot and scored. The final score was 5-2 to King’s.
The squad continues to train every week and focus upon improving their hockey skills in order to play a more professional, fast and sharper game. We look forward to playing our own ‘Modus’ Hockey fixture against the King’s School Worcester on 9 December.
