Senior Piano Concert is Major Success
Maya Irgalina joined RGS pianists this week to perform in the outstanding Piano Concert in Perrins Hall. Maya studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and has subsequently performed all over the world. Before the evening concert, Maya invited some of the School’s pianists to join her in a Masterclass.
Alice Little, Lower Sixth recounts, “Maya was friendly and welcoming so the daunting task of playing in front of a stranger was made much more relaxing. As pianists, we often forget the melody and just press the keys. Maya reminded us to look beyond the notes to tell a story behind your piece, almost like a conversation. This all helped our playing over the long term and it was also so interesting to meet a professional and learn more about her lifestyle.”
Mr Hamilton said, “It’s always a great experience to be in the same room when a ‘pro’ is running through her programme – it is so exciting to hear it all live. Our line up of Senior pupils was extremely impressive; we had some really dramatic, exciting moments and other moments of beautiful, limpid luminosity.”
The Headmaster said, ‘We are very grateful to Maya for inspiring our pupils to perform with such skill and understanding. It was very impressive to see and hear thirteen pupils play at such a high level.”
