RGS Welcome New Head of Rugby
We are delighted to welcome Mr McGarry-Cross to RGS Worcester as our new Head of Rugby from September 2018. Mr McGarry-Cross has had an illustrious playing and coaching career in the professional game and was Head Boy and Rugby captain at the prestigious Sedburgh School.
On the playing field, he represented Edinburgh on 97 occasions, as well as playing for Scotland in National Sevens. He retired from professional rugby in the 2009/10 season due to persistent knee problems, turning his attention to coaching. Mr McGarry-Cross coached Murrayfield Wanderers, Edinburgh Accies and Scotland Under 20s before becoming defence coach for Worcester Warriors in 2013. Director of Sport, Mr Roots, said this about Mr McGarry-Cross’s impending arrival;
“To appoint a Head of Rugby who has been so recently associated with the professional game at Premiership level is a fantastic acquisition for RGS Worcester. Simon comes with a fantastic playing and coaching pedigree and I have no doubt that he will build on the solid foundations that Ben Taylor has established over recent years. It is an incredibly exciting time for RGS Sport in general and Simon’s appointment only adds to the feel-good factor around School.”
Mr McGarry-Cross said the following;
“I am delighted to be joining RGS Worcester as the Head of Rugby. Ben Taylor has done an excellent job over a number of years and I am inheriting a well organised and very committed Rugby programme. I am really looking forward to creating inclusive, challenging and stimulating Rugby sessions at RGS Worcester and painting the city green!”
