Recognition for RGS by Apple
The staff and pupils at RGS Worcester are celebrating this week having received the news that they have been recognised by Apple as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019 – 2022.
RGS Springfield, RGS Dodderhill, RGS The Grange and RGS Worcester all received the much-coveted accolade for their innovative and meaningful approach to teaching and learning through the use of Apple Technology. Director of Innovation at the four RGS Schools, John Jones, commented, “It’s an incredible achievement by all the staff and pupils at RGSW to be recognised by Apple in this way. It’s people who ultimately transform education and I am incredibly proud to work in a team who have developed both the pedagogical and technical knowledge to utilise the remarkable possibilities afforded by digital technology.”
There are only 470 Apple Distinguished Schools in the world and they are regarded as centres of innovation, leadership and educational excellence. To obtain recognition, each school must have successfully embedded Apple technology into everyday school life to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. Apple Schools need to showcase the impact that innovative uses of technology have had upon learning, teaching and the school environment.
Teachers at the RGS Schools have access to the latest Apple technology and are provided with on-going, personalised professional development opportunities in using technology to aid learning. The technology assists the students in the process of learning by encouraging independent thinking. Pupils from Year Five upwards bring an iPad to school and are educated in how to use technology as a learning tool. They are also taught about e-safety and appropriate use online. This innovative approach strengthens feedback between teachers and pupils and helps prepare the students for the digital, global workplace into which they will enter once their studies are completed.
Our Headmaster, Mr Pitt said: “I am delighted that we have been recognised by Apple as a Distinguished School. We are already an Apple Regional Training Centre and provide training opportunities for local state and independent schools in order to encourage appropriate use of technology in all education. It is so important that pupils know how to use technology appropriately, effectively and safely and our Digital Learning Programme prepares them well for their futures.”
