Rallying at Rockingham Races
The Greenpower Team assembled for the last time this season for the International Final of the F24 season at Rockingham Race Track.
During the practice we found that the new rear axle on the car had been fitted slightly out of alignment and we were 8mph slower than had been previously calculated. We stopped the practice laps and carried out some hasty adjustments. Sadly, our slow speed didn’t improve and we had to retire from the first race.
We managed a much better pace in the second race but a towards the end the batteries began to fail and we finished quite a way down the field. Despite the set backs during the day everyone in the team was fantastic helping in everyway they could.

Overall, the Team managed to finish 16th in the F24 2015 Championship out of 200 cars competing. This is a remarkable achievement for a car that is now five years old. The vast majority of the other teams also had a year of experience running their cars on a single set of batteries which RGS has not done previously.

Mr Cotterill said “Greenpower is very challenging and demands many skills from the team members. I have been really fortunate to work with a group of dedicated pupils this year who have shown tremendous determination to succeed. My thanks also go to the many parents who have supported us at the various events and to Mr Boss, the Design Technology Technician, who has also been willing to attend the events and help prepare the car.”
A huge thank you goes out to all the team members, the parents and especially Mr Cotterill and Mr Boss. During the closed season we hope to improve the car so we can have an even better season next year.
