New Head of MFL – Mr Andrew Hutchinson
Mr Hutchinson has joined RGS this term from Hanley Castle High School where, in addition to teaching Spanish, French and German, he co-ordinated the Gifted and Talented programme.
After studying languages at Oxford, he took the questionable step of a law conversion course and ended up in the City, first as a lawyer then as a banker, though for the briefest of moments. Law and Finance were not to his liking, so having somehow convinced Jo, his wife, that leaving the country was a great idea, they spent three months in Valencia, Spain before heading out to Peru for six months of volunteer work and travelling. Despite the lure of travel and adventure, they returned in the summer of 2010 when Mr Hutchinson took up a teaching post at Malvern College. He then moved for promotion to Hanley castle and now has become Head of the Foreign Language Faculty at RGS.
As to his current hobbies, in addition to cycling, running and singing, Andrew finds himself drawn to some of the movies most loved by his two daughters, aged 6 and 3. Their ability to recall all the lyrics from ‘The Greatest Showman’ or ‘Moana’ is nevertheless far superior to his own. Aside from musicals, he loves to read and his favourite book continues to be the 19th Century French novel that set up his love of languages: ‘Le Rouge et Le Noir’ by Stendhal.
We offer Mr Hutchinson a warm welcome to the RGS family.
