On Monday 26 February RGS pupils attended the Severn Stars Super League fixture at the University of Worcester Arena against their South West rivals, Team Bath.
Year Nine pupil Georgia Hill, Year Eight pupil Elyssia Letori and Year Seven pupil Teyah Farmer took on the role of flag bearers and court attendants for the game.
The Severn Stars team took a 10 goal lead at one stage, and, with six minutes to go, were 3 goals in front. But, in a tight frantic finale, relentless pressure from Team Bath saw them net a dramatic winner with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. The final score was Severn Stars 47, Team Bath 48.
Severn Stars Head Coach, Sam Bird, said that she was proud of her team despite the defeat: “It was another massively close game, but I have to say our performance was outstanding and I’m really proud of the team”. The pupils were inspired by watching the Severn Stars and we wish the team well for the remainder of the season.
Three former RGS pupils played in the Oxford vs Cambridge Varsity Netball matches on Sunday 25 February. The Varsity Netball Matches are an annual fixture held between the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. This season the matches were held in Oxford.
Former RGS pupil, Millie Jones, writes about her experience: “The Oxford vs Cambridge Varsity Netball on Sunday was as tense as the annual RGS vs King’s School ‘SuperBall’! There were three fabulous matches with wins for Oxford \’Blues\’ (1sts) 49-39 and Oxford EMUs (3rds) 33-27 and Cambridge 2nds 35-46. RGS was well represented by three former RGS pupils: Laura Curtis, Izzy Darby and Millie Jones. Oxbridge Netball is definitely green!”
