Hattrick of wins for RGS Rowers
The Rowing squad kicked off their season with three wins at Worcester Autumn Head of the River on Saturday 7 October.
Year Eleven rower Ben Jarvis, put in an impressive show of power and technique over the 4.5k course. In the J16 single sculls event, he overtook three competitors from King’s School and Hereford Cathedral School to take the win.
Also in the J16 category, the coxless quad of Adam Smith, Alex Owen, Ben Walker and Jack Beasley, who have been training together all term, managed a clear victory of 23 seconds over their rivals from King’s School – a convincing win putting them fourth overall in the Division One crews.
With a very fast stream on the River Severn making steering tricky the Intermediate 3 double of Alec Berry and Matthew Hill, enjoyed their first race in the Wintech Cobra, named after former pupil and GB Rowing coach Tom Dyson. They took the win in the afternoon, having both raced the course in their single sculls in the morning.
There was disappointment for the J15 coxed quad of Malachy and James Larkin, Daniel Hall and Ben Wastie (coxed by Olly Bailey). Having put in a tremendous effort to overtake three other J15 crews they were pipped into second place by 0.65 of a second to a crew from Hereford Cathedral School.
