Ellie Morgan, Lower Sixth, chosen for the National Youth Wind Orchestra
Already principal flute for Worcestershire Youth Wind Orchestra and oboe for Worcestershire Youth Orchestra, Ellie has also contributed much to the musical life of RGS Worcester, playing in the Sixth Form Showcase, as first keyboard for the production of ‘Guys & Dolls’ and next month in the Senior Piano Concert; she also plays the saxophone for fun. She has now been chosen as one of only 75 students in the country to play flute for the National Youth Wind Orchestra.
The Orchestra will be playing concerts in Cheltenham and at the Royal Northern College of Music before going on tour to Switzerland in the summer.
Ellie says, “I was shocked when I got chosen as I wasn't expecting to ever be selected for a National standard orchestra. I'm very grateful that I have the opportunity to develop my playing and to meet lots more musicians on the courses and I'm very excited to go to Switzerland.”
Ellie has also reunited her grandfather, Derrick Morgan with RGS. He was a pupil in the 1950s and has been delighted to be reacquainted with the School, although he claims that he only ever played the xylophone in the School Orchestra.
