Challenging Scientific Minds
51 students from Year Ten participated in the annual Biology Challenge this year, run by the Society of Biology. They took two 30 minute online papers, covering a range of biological topics from GCSE standard to basic A Level, and including subjects they have not yet covered in class. Pupils were competing against students nationally and standards were very high.
Our students achieved fantastic results and have been collectively awarded two Gold Medals, six Silver Medals, 12 Bronze Medals, 14 Highly Commended Certificates and 11 Commended Certificates. Congratulations to all our Year Ten participants and a special mention has to go to Ben Elgar and Wilf Jenkins, our Gold Medalists, for their outstanding performance in this competition.

When we caught up with Ben and Wilf to discuss their success, Ben said, “I like watching nature programmes on television and I think this really helped with some of the questions that were on subjects that we haven’t studied yet.”

Wilf is already looking ahead to the possibility of studying Medicine at University and, if his success here is anything to go by, he is on the right track.
