CCF Biennial Inspection
Last Wednesday saw Chaplin of the Fleet, the Venerable Ian Wheatley CB QHC RN, who is an RGS Alumnus, and his inspection team visit the RGS CCF (Combined Cadet Force) and over the course of the day witness the cadets in action. The inspecting team comprised of Commander Raynor from KES Birmingham, Squadron Leader Taylor representing the RAF and Captain N. Trevor representing the Army.
The team went to St Oswald’s games field to witness a variety of stands on which the cadets demonstrated clarity of mind and quickness of foot as they put up tents, traversed bottomless chasms, raised radio aerials and fixed rafts. A Royal Naval Display presentation team displayed photographs of our outward bound activities. It was encouraging to note that in all cases the cadets spoke with authority and were confident in talking to Senior Officers.
The team then changed into combat uniform and moved on to Tiddesley Wood to witness the Army Section at work. The Army Section was engaged in the art of campcraft, camouflage techniques and patrol observations.
Georgia Peters (JET to check GP’s role) showed the inspecting team around the venues and was excellent in her delivery of the activities. At the end of a tiring day the Chaplin of the Fleet expressed his thanks to the cadets on St Oswald’s as well as those at Tiddesley Wood and congratulated the School CCF on an excellent inspection.
