Bristol Zoo
On Tuesday 12 May Dragonflies visited Bristol Zoo. Although we encountered a lot of traffic delays it did not dampen our spirits. We arrived with an excited group of children all desperate to meet the animals. The Asiatic lions, gorillas and fruit bats were our first port of call and then it was on to the education centre for a ‘Jungle Boogie.’ We entered the darkened room to the sounds of the rainforest. The children sat quietly and were able to meet a Milk Snake called Cocoa.
Some of us were brave enough to hold and stroke a Hissing Cockroach and a Giant Stick Insect. We explored a variety of artefacts including skins, furs, a tusk and special sensory smelling pots. We discovered that coffee, chocolate and vanilla can be found in the rainforest.
After a delicious lunch we witnessed some amazing animal antics: a kookaburra fascinated the children as it caught a pretend snake; the penguins and seals splashed and darted through the water; and the reptile and amphibian house was extremely popular.
We left the zoo with lots of tired but very happy children. What a fabulous day at the Zoo.
