All a Bard
This week we travelled to Shakespeare's Stratford Upon Avon for the Stratford Regatta.
The duo of Beth Treneer and Lauren Rogers won their competition at Stratford Regatta last Saturday in the Womens’ Novice Double Sculls. Earlier this term, the girls made it to the finals of Evesham, Worcester and Bridgnorth Regattas so it was only a matter of time (and hard work) before they won.

It was a tough Final with the boats neck-and-neck coming around the bend of the 700 metre course. Beth and Lauren plugged away with every stroke easing the boat a few inches further ahead. Evesham responded with a power push on the strait in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre but our girls just had the edge to take the win. They were rewarded with glass tankards and a point on their racing licence.
The second win of the day came for the J15 boys’ quad of Alec Berry, Matt Hill, Harry Smith, Jordan Barnes and coxswain Toby Burrows. In the first round against Stowe School the RGS crew had pulled slightly ahead 50 metres out of the start but Stowe had a mishap with their steering and crashed into our crew giving them instant disqualification. It was an all RGS Final with the A quad just prevailing against the B quad.

We put out several J14 and J15 quads including a number of rowers experiencing their first ever regatta. Chloe Long and Hope Rochell, J15, who have only recently taken up rowing went into a quad and looked as if they had been rowing for years.
Special mention goes to our J14 and J15 girls who were racing in singles for the first time – Elodie Williams, Francine Bath, Katie Lawson and Elise O’Connor. Their technique was great, they coped well with the ‘killer bend’ in the middle of the course and they all stayed upright! Well done!
