Geography Department

Our Geography curriculum

Geography has never been more relevant than it is today, offering students an insight into a complex and dynamic world. Natural hazards, environmental issues, themes such as globalisation, poverty, sustainability in cities and global stewardship create a rich and diverse subject for the inquisitive pupil to explore.

Pupils are encouraged to develop a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the Physical and Human elements of the subject.  In recent years there have been a significant number of students choosing to read Geography at a number of universities, including Oxbridge.

the department also offers international trips, with the most recent being to iceland.

Field excursions

Regular field excursions are seen as an integral part of the curriculum. The department has developed fieldwork opportunities for different age groups in the local area, as well as an A level trip to Slapton Ley Field Centre. Expanding beyond the curriculum, the department also offers international trips, with the most recent being to Iceland, and the Azores planned for 2025.

Geography graduates are highly rated by employers because of their particular contemporary perspective on human life.  Their understanding of landscape, climate and society, coupled with natural curiosity, produces rational thinkers and problem-solvers who are much in demand by employers today.
