In English Year Two pupils have been reading the story ‘George and the Dragon’ by Chris Wormell. To the children’s frustration, they were only allowed to hear the first part of the story and then had to write their own endings, working out who George was, as well as deciding what the dragon’s secret was! Many of the children wanted to know whether dragons were real and, in answer, our Year Two PGCE student, kindly brought in his pet Bearded Dragons called Little Red and Venom. The children were able to handle them and found out about where they originate from, what they eat and what happens when they grow. This added to the excitement and suspense prior to reading the final part of the story…George was a mouse and the secret was that the dragon was afraid of mice!
