After a senior Netball win on Wednesday against Wolverhampton Grammar School, the RGS Worcester 1st VII Netball Team set off for a two-day mini tour to Surrey and Berkshire. In the morning, the girls took part in a tour of the University of Surrey followed by a Sports Experience Afternoon at Surrey Sports Park. The allocated coach for the session was experienced International player Jo Trip and the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Following this, the girls in green took park in physical fitness testing, with feedback on their individual performances. The evening fixture was against Epsom College who were also in training for their upcoming County tournament. This was an opportunity for the full squad to take to the court with some new combinations, as we look to form new playing partnerships, testing player fitness.
Day two and the tourists returned to the impressive Wellington College in Berkshire to be coached by England Netball’s Sophia Candappa Wellington. Despite heroic attempts from the RGS attack, and superb defending, Wellington took the match as worthy winners 22-16. Alex Smith and Hannah Middleton were voted players of the match by Wellington College. Alex Smith was awarded the coach’s nomination for player of the tournament.
The experience of the weekend and the opportunity for team bonding will hopefully stand the girls in good stead for the forthcoming season, including the County tournament in November 2017 and Superball in March 2018.
