Out of School Successes

It has been a tremendous month so far for many pupils who participate at a high level in activities out of School. Congratulations to Kate Horsburgh, Jess Oldnall, Elliot Lewing, Holly Jenkins, Abi Timmington, Harry Standing, Tom Hislop, James Aikman, Katie Ralph, Alice Atkinson, Eva Barry, Elyssia Lettori, Ellie Nicholls, Lara Shaw, Ellie-Rose Allen, Darcy Gray, Lily Hutton and Phoebe Seymour-Perry who have all achieved significant success.

In tennis, Kate Horsburgh represented RGS Worcester last weekend and won the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Girls Singles title at Malvern College. Kate received The Smyths Cup, which is a silver bowl dating back to the 1920s and is now engraved RGS Worcester 2017. This is a welcome addition to her existing Ladies and Under 16 County singles titles.

Congratulations to Year Seven girls Katie Ralph, Alice Atkinson, Eva Barry, Elyssia Lettori, Ellie Nicholls and Lara Shaw, who play for the Worcester Hockey Club Under 12 Girls’ team. Following the National Finals in Nottingham last Saturday the team is now National Runner Up and Regional Champion.

Also in Under 12 Hockey, congratulations to Ellie-Rose Allen, Darcy Gray, Lily Hutton and Phoebe Seymour-Perry who play for Stourport Hockey Club. Stourport finished as Regional Runner-up and tenth nationally – a great result for a newly formed team.

Jess Oldnall has taken her Grade Eight Royal Academy of Dance ballet exam and passed it with a Distinction. Jess has been learning ballet and tap since the age of four and now belongs to Studio B School of Performing Arts. She is also studying for GCSE Dance and is a member of the Wolverines Cheerleading Squad, which perform at all the Worcester Wolves home basketball matches. Congratulations, Jess, on this impressive result.

Also in ballet, Elliot Lewing and Holly Jenkins have both been offered Senior Associate places with the Royal Ballet School, Covent Garden starting in September and recently took their Advanced Foundation Ballet Exam. They also took part in a dance competition in Hartlepool and won summer school scholarships to Bird College in London.

Congratulations to Abi Timmington who competed in the Worcestershire County Track and Field Championships last weekend and won the Silver medal in Under 15 Girls’ high jump and Bronze medals in both long jump and shot put. Abi’s younger brother Charlie, who will move into Year Seven this September from RGS The Grange, won a Silver medal in Under 13 boys javelin. Well done to you both.

Harry Standing has topped the leaderboard in the West Bromwich Albion Talent ID programme called beatthebaggies.com and won the opportunity to train with the West Bromwich Albion Academy. The challenge is to complete a football activity course, including short sprints, a penalty shot and ten keepy uppies. His time of 18.78 seconds is the quickest in his age group (Under 12) and the third quickest in the Under 13 category.

Tom Hislop has completed his Rescue Diver (SCUBA) qualification. This is the highest non-professional qualification a diver can hold. Congratulations Tom on this significant achievement.

Congratulations to James Aikman, who has been selected to attend a National training camp for the Scottish Exiles on 4 June. James was also fortunate to take part in a master class with the former England Rugby coach Eddie Jones and former Wallaby International player Glenn Ella earlier this month at Stourbridge Rugby Club.
