Scrum half Jonny Arr (1998-07) is a stalwart of Worcester Warriors who has played at Sixways since his mini rugby days and is the fourth most capped player in its professional era, having made the number 9 jersey his own for many years. In recognition of his 10 years as a loyal professional for the Club Jonny has been granted a Testimonial Year. Not many professional rugby players last ten years at the top level these days and even fewer do so at one club. It is only a select handful who stick with their hometown club and it is for these reasons and his willingness to engage with the fans that Jonny is such a popular figure amongst the Sixways Faithful. His testimonial year will incorporate a number of events that will raise funds for Jonny’s nominated charities as well as helping him to prepare for life after professional rugby.
Jonny played many times for RGSW as a schoolboy while simultaneously developing his career path with the Club and has chosen to recognise the School on his testimonial website https://www.jonnyarr.co.uk. The website provides information regarding Jonny’s notable achievements including: his 188 caps for the Club (but for a recent injury he would have been very close to the 200 mark), representing England in the Under 20 team that won the Grand Slam in 2008, and being a Warriors Player’s Player of the Year. Since leaving RGSW Jonny has remained a good friend to the School and is always willing to help out when asked. This will come as no surprise to all those who know Jonny and reflects his loyalty to RGSW. The School has played a significant role in the life of his family; sisters Melanie and Kirsty attended AOS in the classes of 2002 and 2005 respectively, while mum, Mary, taught at Springfield for a number of years.
The Foundation Office will be helping to publicise events being held in honour of Jonny, the first of which was a rugby brunch at Sixways Stadium on Saturday 1 July. Julian Powell (1977-83) is on the organising committee and has requested that any alumni who wish to help support or promote Jonny’s chosen charities and events should make contact through the website: https://www.jonnyarr.co.uk where it also possible to sign up to receive email notification of events as they are announced. One of the first sponsors on the website is McMinn Construction which is the business established by Andy McMinn (1999-06). This really is a case of alumni looking out for each other and raising funds for charities in the process.
