On Saturday 6 May, the Foundation Office hosted a reunion for former pupils of the Alice Ottley School. After months of planning by Anna MacDonell (1990-97) keen sportswoman and RFU coach, twenty eight pupils from the Class of 1997 joined former staff, Miss Marsh, Mrs Cormack, Mrs Garratt, Mrs Fitch and Mrs Holwill, to enjoy a leisurely tour of their old school, visiting familiar classrooms and sports facilities. Some of the ladies even shot netball hoops in Cobham Hall for old times’ sake. RGS Springfield was holding its Open Morning on the same day, enabling former Springfield pupils to pop over the road for a quick visit. The tour was rounded off with a visit to the Archives and there was much laughter whilst perusing copies of ‘White and Blue’, the AOS equivalent of The Worcesterian.
Our alumnae then enjoyed a delicious lunch and a proper catch-up with photos being swapped. Many were delighted to see so much of the AOS history retained in the merged school, including their old House signs in Main Hall. However, they also commented how lucky pupils are now to enjoy such wonderful modern facilities, including the Fitness Suite, formerly their School Library and the Dance Studio, previously a chemistry lab.
We know that two of the ladies will soon be frequent visitors to RGSW when their children move up to the Senior School from RGS Springfield and RGS The Grange.
Lizzie Fletcher captured the feeling of many when she commented:
“A huge thanks for organising such a fantastic event for us. It truly surpassed all my expectations. Although the School has clearly been developed and modernised for today’s pupils, it still very much feels like the School I knew and loved.”
Mr Scott MacDonald, Foundation Director
