Staffed by enthusiastic teachers with excellent technical support, the well-resourced Design and Technology Department offers pupils the opportunity to excel in the field of Design and Engineering.  We are proud to be part of the RGS Creative Arts faculty, which is seen as one of the major strengths of the School.

Facilities include a computer room equipped to enable design using a range of software, an electronics area and workshops for wood, metal and plastics. The workshops are equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, computer controlled lathes and milling machines, all used by pupils in the production of creative and innovative project work.

Pupils are encouraged to enter project work, primarily made for GCSE and A Level coursework, in Design and Engineering Competitions and we have met with considerable success over the past two decades. We also enter teams for the Landrover 4×4 competition and Greenpower electric car racing.

Our success rate with the Arkwright Scholarship scheme is the best in the Midlands over the last 20 years. This encourages pupils to take up careers in one of the many fields of design and engineering.
