World’s longest running musical comes to Worcester

17 October 2008

Les Misérables is to grace the boards of Worcester’s Godfrey Brown Theatre this December, as RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School put on five classic musical performances to dazzle audiences.

The play, seen by over 55 million people worldwide in 40 countries and 21 languages, offered the community friendly RGSAO school a huge challenge and opportunity which has captivated the entire senior school and wider Worcestershire Community.

Chosen by the school’s pupils and in planning since last March, the school edition of the world’s longest running musical, will witness a staggering 50 actors, 17 musicians and 15 crew from RGSAO - making this one of the biggest school performance Worcester has seen and it is definitely one not to be missed.

The famous musical will run between Tuesday, December 2 and Saturday, December 6 in the school’s Godfrey Brown Theatre - on the Upper Tything site - to an expected daily audience of 200 people.

In a play of love and bravery in 19th Century France during the revolutionary struggles, experienced James Sinclair will lead as Jean Valjean, with inspirational Charlotte Scott-Wilson performing the main female role as Madame Thenardier.

“We have always had a very strong drama and music department at RGSAO, and have a history of putting on fantastic performances - such as last year’s popular Return to the Forbidden Planet. But, to have Les Misérables performed in our very own theatre is a fantastic achievement for the school. To also have had the actors pick the drama they wanted to perform, has added an extra special spark of life to the production,” commented Andy Rattue, Headmaster of RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School.

“Talented and experienced Head of Drama Simon Howells and Director of Music Mike Hamilton, together with all the pupils are sure to put on a first class performance to last long in the memory.”

Tickets will be on general sale to the public from Monday, November 3 but are available now to pupils, parents and families associated with RGSAO. Tickets are priced at £6 each from RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School, for more information or booking advise please call the RGSAO Box Office on 01905 613391, email boxoffice@rgsao.org or visit www.rgsw.org.uk
