RGSAO goes Pink
15 June 2009
Over 85 RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School pupils, staff and friends ran the race of their lives yesterday (June 14) to help raise money in the fight against cancer.
School runners of all ages joined 5,436 others racers in the annual Worcester Race for Life – the largest of its kind in the West Midlands – raising thousands of pounds for the charity.
RGSAO Registrar Sue Johnston organised the school team, which saw three of its runners finish in the Top Ten, an amazing achievement considering thousands of women took part.
Sarah Armstrong (RGSAO Nurse) finished second overall in a time of just 21 minutes across the 5km course, followed by Head Girl Biddy Briggs in sixth place and Maddy Owen in tenth. However all entries from the school put in well deserved times they could be proud of.
“The RGSAO turnout for the race was fantastic and a real testament to the ethos of the school,” commented Sue Johnston, RGSAO Race for Life Captain.
“With participants from all three schools, numbers have continued to grow year on year and I can’t wait to see what next year brings. Who knows, next year we may even have the race winner!”
“Thank you to all you took part and have kindly donated money, your support has been outstanding.”
