Michael Bochmann to grace Perrins Hall
5 June 2009
RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School is delighted to announce next weeks Strings Workshop and Concert with well-known violinist Michael Bochmann.
RGSAO Pupils will have the opportunity to not only learn from Michael, but also perform alongside the talented soloist in Perrins Hall Worcester.
The afternoon workshop will begin at 2.15pm on Tuesday, June 9 with the evening concert beginning at 7pm.
During the afternoon Bochmann will work with young string players on a range of repertoire selected from:
- The Bach Double violin concerto (slow movement)
- A Geminiani Concerto Grosso
- A Vivaldi Concerto Grosso (‘Il Cardellino’)
- Mozart Symphony 25 1st movement extract (from ‘Amadeus’)
- Tchiakovsky ‘Trepak’ from the Nutcracker Suite
The evening concert will consist of items from the above list during the first half and solo performances by Michael and his pianist Michael Blakemore in the second half.
"Michael and I were keen that pupils attempted 'real' repertoire and there are opportunities for more advanced players to take a lead as well as some easier parts for players around grade 4/5 standard,” commented Mike Hamilton, RGSAO Director of Music.
“Michael will be playing quite a light, approachable programme for the second half which will have an obvious appeal to younger players.”
“We have kept the ticket price well below that which you would normally pay to see Michael Bochmann play and I am sure that children and parents will enjoy the concert."
Tickets for the concert are available on the door, priced at £5 per adult and £3 per child (The Afternoon Workshop is free).
There are still four places available for the Afternoon Workshop on Tuesday (June 9). If you know of a young violinist of at least grade 4/5 standard who would like to take part then please email Mike Hamilton, RGSAO Director of Music, on: mh@rgsao.org or call 01905 613391.
