Lower School Speech Day bowls over the crowd
30 June 2009
High Achievers within the Lower School (Years 7 and 8) at RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School were rewarded on Saturday (June 27) during a special Speech Day presentation.
Around 500 people, including pupils, family and friends from the famous Worcester school turned out for their annual ceremony and social event.
A range of prizes, certificates and subject awards were handed out to students, including Form Prizes for Academic Achievement, Form Prizes for Progress and Individual Awards.
Prizes were given out by opening bowler Lucy Pearson, an ex-England Women’s Cricketer who played 12 Women’s Test matches and 62 Women’s One Day Internationals. Ms Pearson also gave a speech about her school days, memories of the Women’s Cricket World Cup and been voted Vodafone Player of the Year in 2000 and 2003, when she was the first woman to receive the award.
“The Lower School Speech Day is always a great event in our social calendar, and this year was no exception,” commented Andy Rattue, Headmaster of RGSAO Worcester.
“The Year 7 and 8 pupils have produced some fantastic achievements; academically, creatively and on the sports field. My thanks go to them and the teachers for a wonderful academic year.”
