Design Technology Department
Welcome to the D&T Department
At RGS Worcester we offer the very best education in design and technology across the Midlands. Our award winning and recognised department gives every pupil the chance to become the next top inventor or engineer. The Finest Facilities
The excellent facilities are situated in the dedicated design centre on the Little London site. On the ground floor there is a spacious workshop and design studio geared to manufacturing and electronics. A second workshop and design area are equipped for working in wood and plastics. On the top floor of the building is an additional design studio and Computer Aided Design suite.Extensive use is made of advanced manufacturing systems. This includes the use of computer aided design and manufacturing for the production of project work with all year groups. Computer controlled equipment includes two lathes, two milling machines and a large laser cutter. Pupils are encouraged to use programmable systems in their assignments to make projects that have embedded technology. Programmable robots are amongst the tasks undertaken by all pupils in the lower school.
We are also proud of the more traditional project work produced by our pupils working in wood, metal and plastic. The quality of the work is outstanding and a major exhibition of the work is set up each year.
Gifted and Talented
We make every effort to recognise pupils (click here for recent awards won) who are gifted and talented in the field of design and technology by entering them for one of the many competitions open to all age groups. The foyer to the design centre has a very impressive display of the pupils who have achieved success in various competitions. For over a quarter of a century our pupils have won awards in engineering, design and innovation challenges every year. Two pupils have patented projects they have designed.
